NYC Restaurants File Class Claims Against Food Delivery Apps

On June 7, 2021, popular food delivery services Grubhub, Seamless, Postmates, UberEats and DoorDash were served with class claims in federal court in the Southern District of New York, alleging that the companies are “bleeding New York City restaurants dry” by charging fees while collecting millions of dollars at the restaurants' expense, in what the plaintiff referred to as a blatant disregard of the laws of the City of New York.

Lawsuit: Jonathan Adler Employee Fired After Being Harassed by Manager

A lawsuit has been filed by a former employee of a Jonathan Adler home decor store in Manhattan who says he was repeatedly sexually harassed by a manager. The plaintiff alleges the manager relentlessly harassed him during his employment at the store, including unwanted touching and asking about his sex life. According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff was asked by an area manager to remove "sexual harassment" from his formal complaint over his treatment. He was then fired after the company neglected to pay his commission, according to the lawsuit.

A recall has been issued on a single lot of Freshpet Select Small Dog Bite Size Beef & Egg Recipe Dog Food (1 LB bags), with Sell by Date 10/30/2021. The pet food has been recalled due to potential salmonella contamination. The product was scheduled to be destroyed but was inadvertently shipped to retailers in limited geographic markets between June 7 and June 10, 2021.

Estate of Woman Killed in Wrong Way Crash Files Suit

A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against a driver involved in a fatal crash in South Carolina that killed a woman. The lawsuit was filed by the estate of the woman who died when the other driver was driving the wrong way. According to the complaint, the driver was in a "highly intoxicated state" at the time of the crash, after drinking for four hours at a bar. The lawsuit alleges wrongful death and negligence and seeks a jury trial.

San Diego County Pays $1M in Jail Death, Totaling $14M in Payouts Over the Last Year

After agreeing to pay $1 million to the family of a man who died by suicide in jail, San Diego County has already reached a total of $14 million in payouts for the year. The recent settlement was paid to the family of the man who suffocated himself with a plastic food bag given to him by jail officials while he was in the psychiatric security unit. The allegations filed in the last year against the city include excessive force, lapses in medical care and other mistakes, and have resulted in 73 total settlements.

Las Vegas Judge Dismisses Lawsuit Over Deadly Philippines Casino Attack

A lawsuit filed over a deadly attack at Resorts World Manila in the Philippines has been dismissed by a Las Vegas judge. The 2017 attack, which involved a gunman setting fire to the casino, resulted in the deaths of 37 people and injuries to dozens more. The lawsuit was filed in 2019 by the family of two people from Taiwan who were killed at the casino. An attorney for the plaintiffs plans to appeal the recent decision.

New Mexico Officer Killed in Dangerous Arrest Without Backup, Says Family

A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed by the widow of a New Mexico State Police officer who was killed during a traffic stop. The officer was killed by a drug trafficker after he was ordered to make an arrest without backup, adequate training, and necessary information. The lawsuit alleges the plaintiff's husband died in the February incident as a result of the Department of Public Safety's negligence. The family seeks "costs of this action and any other relief the Court deems just and proper."
